Fulham Primary School wins Children’s Parliament Research Award
24/03/2011

Year 6 pupils from Fulham Primary School won a Research Award at Hammersmith & Fulham’s Children’s Parliament on Wednesday 23rd March for their regeneration presentation on the Earls Court Project.
As part of our education project with local schools, the 10 and 11-year-olds conducted environmental quality surveys of the Earls Court area, created a community map and a diorama of their vision of the future of the area. They also had a Q&A session with George Cochrane and Ciaran Quigley from the Earls Court Project team.
Year 6 then presented views on the masterplan at the Children’s Parliament in the Council Chamber at Hammersmith Town Hall. 9 other schools took part with presentations on topics ranging from recycling to fair trade and healthy living.
Councillor Helen Binmore, Cabinet member for children’s services. who chaired the event said:
“The children were really excited to be involved in the project and you could tell they felt valued to be a part of things. They felt if it was going to be a quality environment for the future with an exciting mix of shops and open spaces and good things for children then they would be very positive about it.”
Hammersmith & Fulham Urban Studies Centre has lead our education project since October 2010 and has developed courses with St Cuthbert with Matthias Primary School in Kensington & Chelsea as well as Fulham Primary School. These courses have proved very successful so we are now looking at offering them to more schools in London.
