The Earls Court Festival, July highlights

Myearlscourt.com is proud to sponsor this year’s Earls Court Festival which is bigger, more exciting and more diverse than ever before.
For over 30 years, Earls Court’s annual celebration of ‘exotic cultures and hidden curiosities’ has been a highlight of the summer in west London.
This year’s programme has quirky, quality performances, events and experiences scheduled for mornings and evenings that are aimed at everyone from young families to urban singletons. Tickets to all events can be purchased at earlscourtfestival.co.uk
Here are some highlights for July:
Les Joueurs Mystérieuse

Thursday 7th, Friday 8th, Saturday 9th, and Sunday 10th July, 7 – 8 p.m. Matinee performance Saturday 9th 2 p.m.
Old Brompton Rd entrance to Brompton Cemetery SW5 9JX
Ever been intrigued to discover the stories and secrets of Brompton Cemetery? Well, make sure to arrive as the clock strikes 7 for a magical, macabre tour led by a mysterious, ghostly theatrical troupe who have been performing tales from the past since the 19th century.

Groovin’ Garden
Friday 8th July, 6 p.m
Courtfield Gardens East, SW5 0LX
Steve Rubie’s six piece band “Samara” with special guests Victoria Newton and Wayne Hernandez from the 606 Club transform the grassy banks of Courtfield Gardens East into an outdoor shindig for one night only.

Heartthrob Breakfast

Ease into the weekend with a hearty breakfast and a glass of fizz as The Pembroke hosts a celebrity line-up to make you swoon. Local blonde bombshell Sarah Anson will be presenting the event which will include William Tapley who is currently playing leading man Sam in Mamma Mia in the West End, and dreamy chart-topping crooner Jay Scott Berry at the tail-end of his European tour. If you have other plans for Saturday morning, you’ll have another chance to catch Jay Scott Berry the following Friday after the open-air screening of Dirty Dancing in Nevern Square.

Chips & Glamour
Saturday 9th July, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., 4-18 Harrington Gardens, London, SW7 4lJ
Earls Court gets a taste of the glitz of Las Vegas for one afternoon only at The Gloucester Road Casino. Experienced croupiers and dealers will be manning the roulette table and training tables to teach you how to be a high roller without losing a penny.
Tickets are FREE, but please bring ID as you will need to register as a new customer on your first visit to the casino

The Troubadour has been one of London’s most celebrated musical, artistic and political haunts since it opened up in the Fifties. Bob Dylan played his first gig in the capital here and Paul Simon, Sammy Davis Jnr, Jimmy Hendrix and Elvis Costello are amongst the glittering line-up of performers who have jammed at this legendary club / café.
This month local talent takes to the stage with a line-up that includes John Landau, Miles Roberts, Johnny Du Toit, John Adeleye and Luc Floreani. Come along to soak up the sounds of Earls Court’s finest - they could be the musical stars of the future.

Earl’s Court Classics
Thursday 14th July, 6 p.m.
Brompton Chapel, Brompton Cemetery, SW10 9UG
Brompton Chapel will resound to the dulcet tunes of Chopin and Haydn’s jaunty Gypsy Rondo Trio performed by students of both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, and sponsored by The Richard Carne Trust and Markson Pianos. Doors open at 5.30 p.m.

Open Air Film Night – Dirty Dancing
Friday 15th July, 7 – 11 p.m. Nevern Square Garden, SW5
Who could forget this 80s classic which inspired teens the world over to take to the dancefloor and propelled Patrick Swayze to heart-throb status. Nevern Square will be transformed into an open-air cinema for a nostalgic night of mid-summer romance. After the screening, internationally acclaimed producer and entertainer Jay Scott Berry will perform the soundtrack whilst choreographer Toby Brown teaches the audience some key moves from that iconic, raunchy dance routine.

Street Fair
Sunday 17th July, 12 noon – 8 p.m.
Hogarth and Kenway Roads SW5
These two quiet, residential streets in the heart of Earls Court are hosting their own family-friendly festival for one summer Sunday only. There’ll be fun fair rides for the kids, live music for the grown-ups and stalls selling street food and local crafts. Even the pavements will be transformed with an arty ‘chalk walk’ and ‘artisan alley’ will offer an array of paintings which would make the perfect keepsake of this hyper-local cultural happening.
